On May 20, 1928, Andromaqi Gjergji was born in Korça.

She is known as the first Albanian academic.

He finished high school in his hometown, then continued his studies at the two-year Higher Pedagogical Institute of Tirana (1947–1949).

Andromaqi Gjergji was an ethnologist and academic, the first female member of the Albanian Academy of Sciences (1999).

He was involved early on in the ethnography sector at the Institute of Sciences, becoming part of the first generation of researchers who built the foundations of modern Albanology. He later graduated in history from the University of Tirana and continued his work at the Institute of History and Linguistics, as well as at the Institute of Popular Culture.

Her scientific activity focused on the study of the material and spiritual culture of the Albanians, with special emphasis on folk clothing. The results of long field research (1949–1981) were reflected in the fundamental work “Albanian Clothing in the Centuries” (1988), as well as in other publications such as “Lifestyle in the XIII–XX Centuries” (2002).

Andromaqi Gjergji is the co-author of important works such as “History of Albanian Art” (1990), “Albanian Folk Costumes” (1999, 2005), and “Albania – A Patrimony of European Values” (2000). Through her studies, Gjergji documented the microcosm of the traditional Albanian village, family and social life, production skills, and the relationship of Albanian culture with influences between East and West.

Participation in national and international conferences, involvement in UNESCO programs, and encyclopedic publications placed her work at the center of attention of local and foreign scholars.

For her contribution, she was decorated with the Order of "Grand Master of Labor".

Andromaqi Gjergji passed away on July 8, 2015, leaving behind a rich archival legacy in the field of national cultural, scientific and Albanological heritage.
