The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has seized an apartment in Qerret i Kavajës, owned by a citizen from Kosovo, Shemsi Bahtiri, suspected of involvement in international narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

The criminal offenses charged against Bahtiri include participation in an organized criminal group, trafficking and distribution of narcotics, and money laundering.

For this reason, his property in Albania has been seized by law enforcement authorities.

How did SPAK manage to discover the property?

The actions were initiated following a request for international legal assistance from the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office, which is investigating Bahtiri as part of a drug trafficking network.

After a verification by the National Business Center, it turned out that one of the entities in the name of Shemsi Bahtiri was registered as  "DAIMAN" shpk with the activity of "sale and purchase of real estate", while the apartment in Qerret was found to be his property and is now under seizure by SPAK.

Operation “Broken Sky” in Kosovo

Shemsi Bahtiri was previously arrested in Kosovo as part of the codenamed "Broken Sky" operation, a wide-ranging anti-drug investigation that arrested over 20 people on suspicion of trafficking heroin, cocaine, and money laundering activities through encrypted Sky ECC communications.

Who is the "Dubai Diamond"?

According to media information from a few months ago, Brilant Bahtiri, the son of Shemsi Bahtiri, has been declared internationally wanted by Kosovo authorities as part of the same "Broken Sky" investigation.

He is suspected of being involved in the same organized criminal network of drug trafficking and money laundering, while efforts to seize his assets (including luxury cars) continued by the justice authorities.

Information has also circulated in the media that Brilant Bahtiri was seen in the company of well-known people in Pristina, including after vacationing together in Dubai, before the operation where his father was arrested.

Currently, Shemsi Bahtiri is in custody in Kosovo under serious suspicion of drug trafficking, while the search for Brilant continues.

The seizure of the apartment in Qerret is a step by SPAK to freeze assets suspected of being obtained from criminal activity, even outside the territory of Kosovo.
