Deliberate distortion: Media freedom, it's not who appears more on TV, Berisha or Rama

For several days, media freedom has been under discussion in Albania, following the publication of the annual report by Reporters Without Borders.

The opposition accuses Rama of having captured all the media.

Rama, on the other hand, says that media freedom in Albania is at its peak, because the opposition appears more on television and portals than the majority.

So, according to him, the fact that Sali Berisha appears on TV from morning to evening means that we have media freedom.

Of course, this is a huge misunderstanding about media freedom, which they want to sell to the people.

Media freedom is not having the freedom to publish Saliu and Edin from breakfast to dinner.

Freedom is having the opportunity to denounce their scandals.

Now, how many major television stations have the freedom, for example, to denounce the government's corrupt dealings?

When was the last time you saw an investigation into government corruption on national television?

On which of the major television stations or main portals in Albania, whether those supporting the Government or those supporting the opposition, have you seen or read any denunciations of the oligarchs?

If you want to talk about media freedom, it's not about how many times Sali Berisha or Edi Rama appear on TV.

But how often are the media free to write about corruption affairs or conduct their own investigations, not simply to report who SPAKU arrests or who it is investigating?
