Luan Kapaj and Edi Rama

The mania to catch as many clicks as possible, led the media today towards a serious blunder. A hero of the Fire Brigade, the media today accused him of being the perpetrator of the fire in Sazan. It is about the firefighter Luan Kapaj.

The news spread with the speed of the wind, just as the flames that Lion tries to extinguish spread and was published by many media with the headline "the arsonist of Sazan island is revealed".

Without any verification, the video that circulated in the WhatsApp messages was immediately posted on the web, while in the first place Luan Kapaj appeared there in the uniform of a firefighter. Second, the sky was "invaded" by smoke and trees by flames, where it did not seem at all that it was time to set fire. Third, Luan Kapaj sees with his face from the video and those who film look very friendly with him where they call him by name.

And fourth and most importantly, the face of Luan Kapaj is known. He was the silent hero of the days after the earthquake of November 26, 2019 where he saved several lives that were under the rubble. Prime Minister Edi Rama has given him the gold medal of professional appreciation for his work and many media have taken him in for an interview. Luan Kapaj is known not only in the city of Vlora, but throughout Albania.

But, apparently, the video has not been seen at all by journalists and was published immediately to get clicks.

Even if Luan Kapaj has suspicions that he is lighting a fire, it is still a tactic of firefighters who burn a small territory under their control, to prevent the spread of a large fire.

Today, all those media outlets that made this mistake should apologize to a hero. Luan Kapaj who is fighting the flames became incendiary.

Let today be a good lesson for many media not to be repeated next time.
