Strategic investors, in the Assembly a demand for transparency

Voxnews.al has denounced the end of three decisions of the Strategic Investment Committee, which has given public wealth on the coast to the families of the ruling, or businessmen and persons linked to power.

The first denunciation related to the strategic investor proclamation of Artan Gaci's company, the husband of Foreign Minister Olta Xhaka. The second statement related to the strategic investor proclamation of the comedy actor's company, Gazment Paja and the third of businessman Salvage Shijaku.

Each of the strategic investors in question benefit state property worth millions of euros for only 1 euro for the next 30 years, under the guise of large investments, job creation and contributions to the country's economic growth.

The truth is that these investments are in their overwhelming share holiday villas for the rich and luxury hotels, not making any major economic and social contributions to the respective communities and the country in general.

And in the wake of these denunciations, a group of Democratic Party Deputies have undertaken an initiative in the Assembly to establish a special parliamentary commission procedures for granting strategic investor status.

The Commission is not proposed to have the status of an investigative commission and to come up with a binding report for voting or not in plenary session. But the request aims to make transparency about granting strategic investor status on a case-by-case occasion, especially in the last three years.

Among the firms establishing this commission is MP Jorida Tabaku. It says the reason for pushing the opposition to this request relates to refusals of transparency requirements for strategic investment committee decisions. Tabaku said no commission of inquiry was sought because of delays causing parliamentary procedures in its establishment.

The commission's object is proposed to be the review of all current practices followed by the Strategic Investment Committee; drafting legal changes to Law No. 55/2015 "For Strategic Investments in the Republic of Albania" and the review and adoption of the Investment Bill.
