Socialist MP Erion Braçe has confirmed his stance against the new administrative-territorial reform map, arguing that changing the boundaries of municipalities is not in itself the essence of the reform that local government needs.

In his reaction, Brace clarified that he is not against reforming local government, but opposes a reform that, according to him, focuses mainly on the territorial map.

"I do not avoid reform nor do I reject it. It is necessary, but as a reform for good governance, not as a drawing of a map," he said.

According to Braça, the reform should be based on the same principles and criteria for the entire territory and not only on decision-making based on vote counting.

He calls for decentralization and increased autonomy of local government to be placed at the center of the process, through the transfer of more competencies, functions, financial resources, and revenues to municipalities.

"It is time for the government to give life to decentralization and autonomy in the territory, to think about and make the largest transfer of power, competencies, functions, taxes and duties, budgets to local government," declared Braçe.

Braca's reaction:

About the territorial map, the group meeting, the arguments, my principled stance, the vote against yesterday, and the sanctions as a threat!

I owe you a clear explanation of what happened yesterday, putting an end to speculation and misuse;

Listen to the video and you will understand my position on local government reform – I do not avoid or reject reform, it is necessary, but as a reform for good governance, not as a drawing of a map;

Based on equal principles and criteria, applied throughout the territory of the Republic – the reform is sustained and made sustainable by principles, not votes;

Tirana and its development model should be the core of local government reform – getting Tirana out of the cycle of deep dependence on construction and financing functions and services separately from it;

It is time for the government to give life to decentralization and autonomy in the territory, to think about and carry out the largest transfer of power, competencies, functions, taxes, and budgets to local government - it has never happened since these principles were established in the Constitution;

The concentration of power in just two poles is not good for everyone, starting with the citizens - it must be broken now to specifically delegate service power to the last link of contact with the citizen;

Thus a map for reform;

As a map, it is temporary, unstable, insufficient, it is not what is required of us and what is needed to govern well, improve!

To do the right thing, I have no problem with the vote and its sanctions as a threat; not at all!

Because it is our responsibility to do the right thing, truly, not pretend, based on principles that improve governance at this level!
