The Albanian government does not waste time. The agreement signed with Italy for the mutual recognition of pensions is expected to be approved at the plenary session on February 22.
After the ratification in the Parliament, it will also be published in the Official Gazette. Meanwhile, in order to start functioning, Albanian immigrants living in Italy will have to wait a few more weeks, since the agreement to be active will also have to go through the Italian Parliament, namely the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
During this period, the modalities on how it will work, the role of the institutions and the practice that will have to be followed are defined. In an interview given a few days ago for Scan TV, the Deputy Minister of Economy Olta Manjani said that after the entry into force of the agreement, citizens who are on the verge of retirement can apply to the Social Insurance Institute in Italy without having to come in Albania. It will be precisely this institution that will coordinate the work with the Insurance Institute in Albania, within the deadlines that will be determined.
The agreement provides for the recognition of the contribution periods for pension effect. In this way, an immigrant who has 10 years of work in Italy and 15 years of work in Albania will benefit from a pension in both countries, for the years of work he has. What this means is that he will receive an old-age pension in Albania for 15 years and in Italy for 10 years.
There are about 200,000 Albanian immigrants who will benefit from the agreement, where after its finalization, you will have the opportunity to transfer your pension to Italy.
