Hydrogen, the "base" for climate change, replaces fossil resources,

The use of hydrogen as a clean source of energy for cars, houses or power plants is one of the alternatives that the countries of the European Union are promoting in terms of clean energy and sustainable industry, replacing fossil sources, such as oil or coal.

In this context, the European Green Deal, whose main objective is to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, presents a roadmap to make economies sustainable, turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities. all policy areas.

Also, the Renewable Energy Strategy promotes clean hydrogen innovation and the installation of hydrogen electrolyzers. The strategy includes a target to install at least 6 GW of green hydrogen electrolyzers within the EU, producing up to 1 million tonnes of hydrogen by 2024.

As far as Albania is concerned, our country currently bases its energy production on completely renewable sources such as water and the sun, while it has not disclosed plans for the use of this source as an energy generator. However, the use of hydrogen is being seen as an opportunity in the gas industry.

The draft 10-year investment plan of the state gas company, ALBGAZ, considers that new gas pipelines will be built to accept hydrogen and to change minimally or to work minimally in case of a higher content hydrogen. Meanwhile, the use of hydrogen is seen as a priority in terms of developing a sustainable industry.

Currently, industry accounts for 20 percent of EU greenhouse gas emissions. The EU Green Deal therefore includes actions to strengthen decarbonisation efforts, ranging from product sustainability to raw material supply.
