The 4iG Group, investor of One Albania, a regional leader in the field of IT and telecommunications, has signed an agreement with the Swedish technology giant Ericsson to guarantee high performance of the mobile network in Albania.
This investment in mobile telephony infrastructure follows the purchase of frequencies for 5G technology by One Albania, part of 4iG.
One Albania became the first operator in the country to launch 5G service on November 25, 2024. The new frequencies were purchased for 5.4 million euros in the tender announced by the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) and the 5G package will be put into full use in the coming years, investing in Ericsson network equipment.
The cooperation with Ericsson fits best with the Hungarian group 4iG's pro-investment strategy in Albania and the Western Balkans region.
"4iG is a regional group that offers a wide range of telecommunications services in the Western Balkans. Albania is one of the main countries where we have invested, so we take into account the legal and political aspects when it comes to any important strategic decision. For this reason, we started a long-term cooperation with Ericsson, a technological partner of Albania for years", said Peter Fekete, Executive Director of the 4iG Group.
"This agreement highlights Ericsson's commitment to advancing the innovations that 5G technology brings to the country. Through 5G, we enable faster, more reliable and stable connections, laying the foundation for next-generation services."
As the demand for high-performance networks grows, our partnership with One Albania, part of the 4iG Group, will support the needs of consumers and businesses,” said Antonio Passarella, Ericsson Country Manager for the Western Balkans.
The investment of over 50 million euros will, as a start, ensure comprehensive coverage with 5G technology in key strategic areas, including major ports and airports, critical hospital infrastructure in Tirana, as well as the most visited coastal spots.
High-capacity 5G mid-band coverage is expected for all cities in Albania by 2028, reaching 85% of population coverage by the end of 2030.
The agreement between the 4iG group and Ericsson includes access to cellular airwaves and network investments, offering the most advanced 5G Stand Alone (5G SA) technology.
Thanks to the collaboration with Ericsson and the investments made so far by the Hungarian group 4iG, One Albania is ranked as the mobile network with the best performance, based on measurements made by international experts over the years.
In September 2024, the telecommunications leader brought internet up to 10Gbps to Albania for the first time, combining broadband with premium speeds and advanced technology to maximize customer experience, thanks to the value and high standard of 4iG Group's investments in the telecommunications market in Albania.
