The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, warning him that no government action will affect the opposition's support for the student protest.
In a statement to the media, Berisha stated that the DP, its members and supporters throughout the country will continue to stand by the students, despite the actions of the Prime Minister, the State Police and the services.
"I am here to warn Edi Rama that no provocation, no act of his, his criminal police and his service, will be able to undermine the full and total support of the Democratic Party, its members, its supporters throughout Albania, for the student protest," Berisha declared.
The opposition leader called on Rama to step down, referring to Nicolae Ceausescu, the former Romanian dictator who was executed after the regime was overthrown in 1989, and Ramiz Ali, the former communist leader of Albania, who left power during the political transition.
"Likewise, I suggest that between the fate of Ceausescu and the fate of Ramiz Ali, he choose the latter. There is no other way, he resigns ," Berisha said.
