Who needs these "licensed weapons" at sea?!
Boat on the seashore

The serious event of two days ago on the beach of Potami clearly showed that speedboats and jet skis are nothing but "licensed weapons", which unfortunately we have been seeing every summer for years.

At least since 2016, when a Russian tourist lost his life after being hit by a speedboat, the Albanian state has failed to find an efficient solution to this problem, despite the fact that it may have tried.

We remind you that there is a decision No. 845, dated October 28, 2020, for the approval of detailed rules for marine tourism activities that are carried out through vessels, for tourism and entertainment purposes.
The said decision charged the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the inspectorate that covers the field of tourism and the State Technical Industrial Inspectorate for its implementation.

But apparently somewhere, something or many things did not work.

The reality showed that the perimeter fence with buoys was completely missing at the scene, and the motor vehicle station was located in the middle of the beachgoers' area, without being differentiated from it at all.

On the other hand, the phenomenon remains present on the Albanian beaches: Intoxicated by luxury and money, the young rich are unable to put limits on themselves.

Some supported by politics and others with the standards of the "strong", they think they can privatize everything they want, not only the land, but also the sea, and maybe one day the sky.

We still continue to wander in a social and mental chaos and it seems that, unfortunately, we still need force and violence to understand that respecting laws and rules is not a weakness, but an obligation for any of us, regardless of social, economic status or political.

Therefore, in these conditions, more than the actions of the State Police, the seizure or control of water vehicles, I think that the necessary and only solution is their urgent arrest.

A moratorium that would clear the sea of these murderous weapons, until their users are educated to use them properly.

In 2022, when we claim to be citizens of Europe, we cannot and should not demand a policeman for every car that circulates, or a policeman available for every vehicle that navigates.

The Albanian government absolutely has the mechanisms and possibilities to order the prohibition of any recreational watercraft through a VKM, until their users are ready to use them properly, and not as time mines.

We failed, we didn't use watercraft as entertainment, we turned them into "weapons". So before we put them back into use, we need to get ready.

And we have this in our hands.

- We will be ready when we become aware of the danger these vessels carry;

-When we have proper and dedicated spaces for watercraft, outside and away from the areas where citizens swim or relax;

- When we have staff or trained officers, complete with water tools that can monitor and control the area;

-When politics or the rich will not dare to "beat" the phones to ask for favors for their friends or relatives who break the laws and ask for privileges;

Can you afford to do all this, or do you need a policeman for every citizen?

We are not ready to sail the sea. We do not have the conscience and responsibility of such a commitment. And for a better understanding, let me remind you that no foreign citizen has caused accidents with watercraft in Albania. All their perpetrators are Albanians.
Today, I believe and think that the results are not achieved through coercion, threat, punishment and violence, but through awareness and educational campaigns, which will help us to never witness such scenes again.
Until then, speedboats and jet skis should not navigate our waters. And please don't give me tourism and its income as an argument.
He was off this summer long before this tragedy happened.
Worse still, it didn't even manage to turn on, despite campaigns for beautiful, clean beaches.
So dear, before you give out your boat licenses and think about the money you will earn from them, remember that this money is not worth more than the life of a completely innocent 7-year-old girl...
