A serious incident was recorded this Tuesday in Shkodra prison, where detainee Brendon Ronald Saporito, 57, was found hanged in his room by fellow inmates.

According to the official announcement, he was found still with signs of life and was immediately taken to Koplik Hospital, but despite first aid and the efforts of doctors, he did not survive.

Saporito, a US citizen, was arrested on May 2, 2025 and was held in custody on the charge of "murder due to family relations", by decision of the Shkodra Court.

Brandon Saporito stabbed his wife, Sandra Saporito, to death on Friday, May 2, 2025. Sandra Saporito died at the scene of the incident, the apartment the couple had rented in the "Vasil Shanto" neighborhood of Shkodra.

It was reported that the American tourist committed the crime while drunk and for weak motives.

Meanwhile, the suicide was immediately reported to the authorities today, while investigations are underway to clarify the full circumstances. The prison administration has announced that it is cooperating with the Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Control Service in Prisons to document the event.

At the Shkodër Prison, on October 28, 2025, the detainee Brendon Ronald Saporito was found hanging in his room by his fellow inmates. The institution's employees took him out with a pulse and signs of life to the emergency room, where the medical staff provided him with first aid. Despite the immediate intervention from the Koplik Hospital and the efforts of the medical staff, the detainee did not manage to survive.

Brendon Ronald Saporito, born on 22.04.1968, son of Joesph Binald Saporita and Marichea (Klein) Saporita, was in the Shkodra Penitentiary Institution due to the decision of the Shkodra First Instance Court, which had assigned him the security measure "Arrest in prison", suspected of the criminal offense "Murder due to family relations". He was arrested on 02.05.2025 and brought to the institution on 04.05.2025.

The incident was immediately reported to the competent authorities, and all investigative actions are being carried out to fully clarify the circumstances. The Directorate of the Shkodra Penitentiary Institution is cooperating closely with the Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Control Service in Prisons to fully document the incident.
