The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali , has reacted harshly regarding the way part of public opinion and the media have treated the tragic event of the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja .
In a post on the social network Facebook, Spiropali condemns attempts to justify the barbaric act and glorify the aggressor, while calling on society and institutions to reflect on the way victims are treated and ethics in the public and digital space.
She calls for legal measures to protect human dignity, emphasizing that this is not the European Albania we are negotiating with the European Union for.
Reaction:
The recent attempt to glorify the barbaric act of murdering Judge Kalaja through a series of media publications, followed by a stream of disgusting comments directed at the victim, is extremely shocking.
Equally outrageous is the attempt to justify the killer for the extreme act that took one life and injured two others.
Hatred for victims and exaltation of aggressors by exploiting the freedom to write and comment in the digital space can in no way be a European Albania.
While we are negotiating with the EU to move ever closer to European media standards and democratic ethics, full awareness and reflection are needed on future legal measures that protect the dignity of the individual, as well as freedom of expression.
Unverified publications about the murderous protagonism and the wave of defamatory comments on social networks about the victim can in no way be the face of Albanian society.
The real Albania is much more than that; it is value, it is respect, it is dignity!
Our deepest condolences to the family of Judge Kalaja and solidarity with the judges, prosecutors and all servants of the Albanian state!
