The Northeast is "invaded" by snow, the use of chains on the roads is recommended

The weekend has started with snowfall in the northeast, with low to moderate intensity in the remote mountainous areas. National and rural road axes are passable, but drivers are required to have winter tires or chains.

The contracting entities continue to work with all capacities for snow removal, salting and maintaining them functional.

The free movement of vehicles continues on the National Road. Eight snowplows are working to remove snow on both sides of the Morinë-Kalimash Tunnel segment, while the police have set up checkpoints to advise drivers of vehicles traveling from Albania to Kosovo, but also from Kosovo to Albania.

The Albanian Road Authority appeals to drivers to exercise increased caution while driving and to equip themselves with winter tires and chains when traveling in mountainous areas with the presence of snow.

As a result of the snowfall, there were also problems and power outages in Kukës and in several villages, such as Myhejan and Kërrnajë, the Tropojë Administrative Unit, and the Tropojë Municipality. OSHEE working groups are working to repair the defects.

From the information received from the Civil Emergencies responsible for the municipalities of Kukës, Tropojë and Has, there are no reports of any emergency issues.
