Climate change alarm! / The year 2024 crossed the global warming limit of 1.5

The planet has taken another step towards global warming by crossing the 1.5C threshold for the first time in the history of measuring its temperature.

Officially, according to the latest data, it is considered the hottest year ever recorded, indicating that world leaders' efforts to curb this are on the verge of failure.

The European climate service Copernicus explained that the cause is emissions from fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas, which continue to warm the atmosphere.

Average global temperatures for 2024 were about 1.6C above those of the pre-industrial period, before humans began burning large amounts of fossil fuels.

But the record is longer than the year we left behind, as, according to Copernicus, the last 10 years are on the list of the hottest with an ever-increasing curve.

Last week, UN chief António Guterres described the recent temperature record as a "climate catastrophe".

The world has seen unusual climate situations that have had a number of serious consequences for many countries.

High temperatures in West Africa, prolonged drought in parts of South America, intense rainfall in Central Europe and several strong tropical storms in North America and South Asia.

These events were just some of those made more intense by climate change over the past year, according to the World Weather Attribution group.

No one can escape the natural phenomena that result from global warming.
