The next 48 hours are considered critical for the health of the Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, Anastasios Janullatos.

This Friday he underwent emergency surgery to treat an episode of internal bleeding.

According to the medical report, after the surgery, Archbishop Anastasios "was transferred back to the ICU intubated. The next 48 hours are considered critical."

Archbishop Anastasios is being treated at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

"Kathimerini" writes that he was urgently taken to the operating room in order to control bleeding in the small intestine.

For this reason, a team of doctors with endoscopes identified the spot and a team of surgeons intervened with a laparoscopic operation. The 95-year-old Archbishop was given the appropriate treatment to control the bleeding, but this morning he took a dramatic turn for the worse.

Janullatos was admitted to a Tirana hospital on December 30 due to a virus, but in the early days of January he was transferred on a special plane to Athens.
