Arrest of Kevin Kurti

The drug trafficking agent, described as the "architect" of the agreement between the criminal groups of Naples and Calabria, has been caught in Albania.

It is about 26-year-old Kevin Kurti, who escaped the operation three weeks ago by the Carabinieri of the Naples Investigation Unit, where 32 people, members of two criminal organizations dedicated to international drug trafficking and distribution, were arrested in an operation police of Naples in Italy.

The two Albanians involved in this organization were Isat Cela and Kevin Kurti, 26 years old. The 26-year-old is considered the pivot around which the agreement was made between Simone Bartiromo, a leading element of the organization under investigation, and Sebastiano Romeo, a Calabrian "supplier" of cocaine based in Bianco.

The investigations never stopped and the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Antimafia District Directorate of Naples and with the invaluable cooperation of SCIP (Service for International Police Cooperation) and the Albanian Police, tracked down Kurti in Durrës. He is now locked up in an Albanian prison, awaiting extradition, Italian media write.

The investigations show that one of the Albanians was intercepted in a conversation in June 2021 with a compatriot who had just landed in Naples. The two interlocutors discuss the methods of transporting drugs and the dangers they are exposed to, for example, when drugs are transferred in a bag, due to drug-sniffing dogs. They claim that the containers offer greater security, but only "underwater is 100%, but fits only from Panama", they say.

The phrase is interpreted by investigators as a demonstration that traditional means are now being joined by a transfer method via submarine, as revealed by US police during a major operation. The submarines are launched from Panama, which is considered one of the world's cocaine capitals. Part of this group is also Bruno Carbone, the Italian arrested in Dubai in November 2022, wanted since 2003 and considered one of the most important traffickers after Raffaele Imperiale. The organization trafficked cocaine, marijuana and heroin. The drug route has been the Netherlands and Spain.
