Sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Commissioner Lamaj, the
Arben Frroku

The Constitutional Court has reopened the trial of Arben Frroku, in connection with the murder of Commissioner Dritan Lamaj. The hearing for Frroku will be held on February 17, at 10:00.

The European Court of Human Rights decided to reopen the case of Arben Frroku, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Lamaj in 2013.

Strasbourg assessed that the process against him violated human rights and should be retried by the Constitutional Court of Albania.

Arben Frroku is sentenced to life by the Serious Crimes Appeal for the murder of Commissioner Lamaj, but he is in prison in the Netherlands, a country that has refused his extradition.

Frroku appealed to the Strasbourg Court after his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court on June 8, 2017, as well as by the Constitutional Court on April 24, 2018, leaving the life sentence in effect.

Arben Frroku is the brother of former MP Mark Frroku, who was released from prison in May 2018 after being convicted of concealing assets, money laundering and illegal construction. Mark Frroku was also accused of a murder in Belgium, which took place in 1999, but the charges for this crime were dropped due to lack of evidence, while the former MP stated several times that he had no hand in this incident.
