A 12-year-old boy from the village of Poceste in the municipality of Maliq lost his life a day ago at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center.
The news was announced by the director of the 9-year school in Vashtemi, where the minor was a 7th grade student.
Sources close to the school said that there are suspicions that the 12-year-old may have died of cardiac problems, but legal expertise is awaited to determine the cause of death.
The same sources said that the 12-year-old was initially treated with medical assistance at the Korça regional hospital, but the doctors at this hospital, given his serious condition, urgently sent him to the QSUT.
A forensic examination is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
According to data from the Korça regional hospital, the 12-year-old went to the hospital about 10 days ago with flu symptoms and after being kept under the care of doctors, his condition improved and he was discharged from the hospital on December 31.
He was then accompanied back to the hospital by his family after vomiting and tests showed that he had high blood sugar, so yesterday morning he was taken to Tirana, while last evening he suffered a cardiac arrest.
This is not the first case of suspected deaths due to cardiac problems among young people in the Korça district, as 3 other deaths were recorded days ago, where a 16-year-old passed away in Korça, a 17-year-old passed away in Pogradec, and another case in the city of Erseka, where a 15-year-old lost her life outside the school premises.
