Artan Tafani has confessed to the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Court the attempt to kill lawyer Adriatik Guri.

According to the associate of justice, Laert Haxhiu wanted to eliminate the lawyer because he was helping his opponent. Tafani claims that at that time, Haxhiu and his associate, Lulzim Arapi, had access to police cameras.

Despite claiming to have retained a lawyer, Tafani testified in court that he could not have committed the crime because Guri is a cousin.

"I rented a house in Lushnje. The goal was to kill the lawyer Adriatik Guri. I was guarding the lawyer, while I am his cousin. Laerti wanted to kill him, because according to him, the lawyer was helping his enemy. They had police cameras, they had the code, and they were guarding me too. Lulzim Arapi came to the house where I was and brought a CZ type pistol with two silencers. We continued to guard the lawyer. I was staying at the bar where he also came, but I told him that I could not do it, because he was my cousin. We left it to Lulzim to do it. One night he ran away from us. I got involved out of fear, not for money. Laerti said: 'It will be done'", Tafani testified.

According to the testimony, the assassination attempt failed at the last moment due to the intervention of a local resident, who noticed Arap's suspicious behavior.

"Lulzimi was ready to shoot him, we were at the entrance of the building waiting. At one point, a neighbor noticed him there and said: 'What are you doing?'... the lawyer's luck, God saved him," Tafani said.

The event was attempted to take place in October 2021.

After this failure, Laerti Haxhiu canceled the order for the assassination of the lawyer and continued to give instructions from Greece, where, according to Tafani, he was passing through with the help of a person from Saranda.

Continuing his testimony, Tafani said that after Tirana, they traveled to Pogradec, where they stayed at Mariglen Topuz's villa. There, Laerti had announced another target for elimination: Elton Mermalin.

Artan Tafani was arrested after robbing a currency exchange in Tirana and received the status of a repentant person of justice, speaking about several events that, according to him, were committed by Laert Haxhiu's group.
