The Supreme Court has rejected the plea of innocence of Shukri Xhelil, the former mayor of Dibra, who in 2017 was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison by the former Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes for the charge of sexual intercourse in abuse of office .
The senior judges also dismissed the Prosecution's request to convict him of corruption, leaving the Appeal decision in place. Shukri Xhelili was involved in a sexual scandal in 2016, where he had asked her for sexual relations in favor of a job.
Serious Crimes investigated and demanded his punishment for corruption in the form of solicitation of sexual favors, but the Appeal changed the charge, softening Xelil's positions. Decision that was left in force by the Supreme Court 5 years after it was given.
