Punishing people who build without permission has been the priority of the Albanian authorities, but referring to the figures in prison, it is not builders and entrepreneurs who build buildings, but women.

In recent weeks, Tch has reported on the artist Mimoza Ahmeti, who was sentenced to 40 hours of compulsory work by the Court of Tirana for the reconstruction of the house destroyed by the earthquake in Petrelë, and on the 74-year-old Bihane Shaba, who was prosecuted in Shkoza after installing some bars to prevent the house from collapsing from the soil that was sinking into the foundations.

Referring to data from Open Data Albania, during the past year, 90 women were convicted for providing aid for illegal construction. In total, 698 women and girls were convicted for various criminal offenses. 70% of those convicted are for crimes and 30% for misdemeanors.

Some time ago, ministers Bledi Çuçi and Belinda Balluku offered such scenes, surprised by some illegal constructions in the capital. After so many weeks, these scenes remained only in the politics of the day and in the archives because none of the builders who built buildings without a permit or entire floors without a permit has been penalized in the same way as Mimoza Ahmeti or the 75-year-old Bihane Shaba. Such shows remain only a facade, while the law acts only on the poorest, the most vulnerable and, of course, on women.
