After dozens of hours of fighting the flames of the firemen with the support of the Armed Forces, several fires in the south of the country have been extinguished.
The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, says that the fires in Grapsh in Dropulli and the one in the village of Kardhikaq in Finiq, have been extinguished and are no longer endangering the area.
Peles notice:
After an uninterrupted work of the forces on the ground and from the air, there is an improvement in the fire situation in the village of Grapsh in the municipality of Dropull and in the village of Kardhikaq in the municipality of Finiq, no longer presenting a danger to the residents and houses of the villages.
However, the operational forces of Dropulli, Gjirokastra, Tepelena, Përmet, Këlcyra, Memaliaj, Finiq, Saranda, Himara, Delvina and Konispoli continue the work to extinguish the fire, as the risk of reactivation of the fires still continues as a result of the change in wind speed.
The Armed Forces and the Cougar helicopter continue their support, while three FA firefighting vehicles have been added to this action. The situation is being followed closely by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Enkelejd Joti.
The National Civil Protection Agency also requested the support of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, from which three countries offered their assistance. The activation of two PZL planes from Greece, as the country closest to the fires, is expected.
