The former director of Civil Emergencies, Shemsi Prençi stated that Albania has the financial possibilities to buy helicopters for extinguishing fires, coming out against the reasoning of the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi.
A few weeks ago, Peleshi stated that Albania can not buy a plane 50 million euros aircraft to extinguish fires, but according to Prenci, our country must have at least 4 helicopters, which do not cost more than 12 million euros.
"Following the statement of the Minister of Defense, the political person responsible for crisis management, I would say that Albania needs the vision of leadership. Albania definitely needs a fleet, no matter how small, 3 or 4 helicopters that must be on standby.
I do not agree with the Minister of Defense and all those who advise him, that Albania does not have the capacity and financial opportunities, as 4 helicopters do not make more than 12 million euros, at a time when we 12 or 20 million euros i we consume to make 1 kilometer of road " , stressed Prençi in EuroNews Albania.
He underlined that over 60% of the territory of Albania is mountainous terrain and very mountainous, so it is necessary to invest in air infrastructure.
A few days ago, the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi reported to the Security Commission regarding the situation of fires in the country. Peleshi said that Albania does not have the capacity to purchase special aircraft for firefighting, because according to him, in addition to the fact that they cost a lot, they have significant maintenance costs.
