It was November 27, 2021, when the life of a newly created family would be destroyed. The two parents would learn that their 1-year-old child was infected with HIV. Their suspicions fall on the QSUT hospital, in the pediatric intensive care unit, where the boy was hospitalized for several days after suffering from bronchopneumonia.

The parents' meetings with the son would be only 5 minutes every 3 hours and this situation lasted until December 9, 2021. From the tests carried out, they would learn that their son was carrying a body of the HIV virus, which they still do not know how it was obtained, since the hospital and all institutions have not given any explanation. The parents reinforce the accusations against the hospital, since in two tests they performed, both in Germany and Italy, they came back negative for HIV.

The parents indicate that they have not found the support of the Albanian state in relation to this case and that they have found the necessary housing and treatment from a neighboring country, where they are currently located. In tears, the parents appeal to the state to help them and demand that the other children who were in intensive care with their little one at the time be tested, as according to them, they too may be at risk of the HIV virus.

The infectious disease doctor, Ilir Alimehmeti, confirmed that HIV infection in the hospital is a phenomenon that occurs everywhere in the world, although in extremely rare cases. He showed what the transmission routes are. The doctor recounted how he acted in similar cases in the region and elsewhere.

The parents of the little boy have made available to us all the communications they had with doctors and health officials. They have continuously requested a meeting with Minister Ogerta Manastirliu, but this has not been possible.

Under these conditions, they have built a bridge of communication with other officials. In the messages, it can be seen that the parents have talked with the deputy minister Mira Rakacolli, who, in not a few cases, chooses to ignore the depressing letters sent by the parents of the 1-year-old. In other communications, it can be seen that the head of the PIH does not provide any detailed explanation to the parents.

Aktualisht, çështja do të vendoset në Gjykatën e Apelit.

In a similar case, if it happened in Italy and medical negligence was proven, the Italian state would not only provide the necessary treatment, but also a compensation of 3 million euros. In the case of this little boy, where the dreams of a family and a child are fading day by day, we raise the question of how the Albanian state will act?!
