An Albanian man who beat a man with an umbrella until it fell apart before slamming his face into the pavement has won his case to stay in Britain.
Vangjel Gjika , 50, won an asylum case after serving a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for the "brutal" attack.
He faced deportation over the attack in 2020, but now the Immigration Court has ruled that he can stay because it was a "one-time" case.
According to " Dailymail ", Gjika was imprisoned after traveling on the London Underground to a location where he knew his "victim" - a friend of his - would be and carried out the "brutal" attack.
His weapon, an umbrella, was used with so much "force" that it broke, and then Gjika slammed his victim's head into the pavement twice. His "victim" was traumatized and required surgery.
Gjika, who has dual citizenship, both Albanian and Greek, is a painter and decorator and lives in Surrey.
Following the request for his extradition, after a 5-year delay, the Supreme Court has ruled: he will remain in Britain.
The High Court heard that Gjika, born in Albania, moved to the UK in 2013, after living in Greece for 22 years.
For the incident in 2016, he carried out a "sustained and violent attack" on a man with whom he had had an ongoing dispute.
He said he had known the man for many years, as their mothers were friends and neighbors. They were childhood friends and had grown up together in Albania.
But their relationship "fell apart" and the pair exchanged several threatening and abusive messages with each other. That's when he started attacking her with an umbrella.
Gkika was scheduled to stand trial in 2017, but he changed his plea at the last minute and was sentenced to 32 months in prison.
After his release, the Court decided not to remove the Albanian from England, as there is no evidence that he poses a danger to anyone other than the case for which he served his sentence.
