Residents of three villages in the Berat district protested today (February 5) in front of the Municipality.
The cause is the lack of road infrastructure connecting these areas to each other and to the urban area.
Residents of the villages of Gjeroven, Mbolan and Veleshnje gathered in protest in front of the Berat Municipality, calling on local authorities to take measures to build the new road.
A delegation of 4 people has entered the Municipality to meet with the leaders of the institution and line sectors covering Urban Planning and the Road Maintenance Enterprise.
Two of the representatives from the protesting residents, who met with the deputy mayor, claimed after the exit that officials told them that "there are no funds and the road cannot be built."
"They told us to protest as much as we want, the road won't be built because the Municipality doesn't have funds," one of them said about what was discussed at the institution.
Another resident explained that they were also met by the mayor of Berat, Ervin Ceca, while adding that the latter had not offered them a solution.
"We met with the mayor. He told us; 'we don't have the funds to build the road'. He told us 'block the road, go on strike, do whatever you want. We don't ask about you'. They lie to you all day long. They come to get votes and then leave. They didn't give us hope, they told us 'we don't have the funds!'" he confessed.
