The Navy ship Libra is headed to Albania to bring the first group of migrants to the centers set up in Albania to undergo expedited border procedures.

An initial check was carried out on board of the persons to be transferred, who had been rescued at sea, to verify that they meet the requirements set out in the protocol: originating from safe countries, male, not vulnerable. At the head of the initiative is the Italian Ministry of the Interior.

While women, minors, the tortured and the sick are sent to Lampedusa and from here they are placed in the normal waiting circuit waiting for their asylum request to be examined by the territorial commissions.

As soon as the ship arrives at the port of Shengjin, the remaining migrants will disembark and undergo a second, more in-depth inspection.

Then they will be transferred to Gjader.

According to the protocol signed by Prime Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Edi Rama, asylum seekers will receive an answer within four weeks: if the answer is positive they will be transferred to reception centers in Italy, otherwise they will return to their country of origin.

The commission chaired by the Prefecture of Rome will examine the requests, the interviews will take place via video link between Italy and Albania.
