Wanted for 5 years, Moisi Habilaj is arrested in Borsh

After several years of being wanted, Moisi Habilaj has been arrested. It is learned that his arrest was carried out in Borsh.

Moisi Habilaj was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2021 by the Albanian judiciary for drug trafficking and a structured criminal group, which based on the summary trial was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Moisi Habilaj was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison in Italy, also for international drug trafficking.

The Habilaj organization made a splash in the Albanian political arena in October 2017, after the publication of the Italian dossier exposed their connection with former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.

Although Tahiri was accused by the former Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office of drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization, he was convicted by the respective court for abuse of office. In parallel with Tahiri, Jaeld Çela, the former head of the Vlora police, was also found guilty.

Immediately after the Court of Appeal in Catania confirmed the 15-year prison sentence, police officers went to the apartment where Moisi Habilaj was under house arrest, but they did not find him there.
