The detention of the two Britons at the Tirana airport has also received the attention of the local media.

The two arrested persons denied espionage, claiming to be IT engineers and their equipment was amateur radio.

They were interrogated at the Tirana International Airport by the intelligence officers, then the two returned to Great Britain, but remain under investigation by the Albanian side.

According to the British media, the Albanian police confirmed that they have opened an investigation against the British vacationers on the accusations of 'espionage activities' and 'espionage'.

A source said: "It is very unusual to carry this type of equipment and even more strange for someone to be arrested and charged as an undercover agent."

The two suspects were held on May 30 and then allowed to return to the UK. However they remain under investigation, police say.
