"A 33-year-old man is being prosecuted for allegedly spreading false information on social media, causing panic among citizens, claiming that the mayor and municipal employees are infected with HIV/AIDS."

The Crime Investigation Specialists at the Gjirokastra Police Station referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against citizen EK, 33 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, for the criminal offense of "Spreading false information that incites panic". The 33-year-old's cell phone was seized as material evidence," the police statement said.

The citizens of Gjirokastra have faced a wave of panic in recent days, following the spread of news on social networks about an alleged situation of the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The mayor and several employees of the institution have been placed at the center of these allegations, which has further increased concern among public opinion.

Immediately after the publication of these allegations, the lawyer for the mayor of Gjirokastra, Arben Llangozi, addressed the Local Police Directorate, where he filed a criminal report, describing these news as slander and untruths that damage the image of the people involved, reports Top Channel correspondent Entjola Budo.

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra, for further action.
