Elton Hajnaj, found guilty of murdering Tauland Beqiraj, has had his sentence confirmed by the Court of Appeal. Hajnaj was sentenced to 21 years in prison. The convict appealed the court's decision in April 2022 and asked to change the decision of the first instance.

At the end of the appeal trial, the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, composed of the panel with Judge Relator Sokol Pina and members Miranda Andoni and Valbona Vata, decided to uphold criminal decision no. 176, dated 12.04.2022 of the Vlora Judicial District Court.

Elton Hajnaj was declared guilty for the murder of Tauland Beqirajt, an event that happened on March 3, 2021 on the trans-Balkan road of Vlora. While his two associates, Hans Jonuzaj and Skerdjan Gabrani, who are behind bars, were sentenced respectively to 4 and 6 years in prison, but will benefit from a shortened trial with a reduction of 1/3 of the sentence. Sali Zeneli, a friend of the victim who was caught at the scene, was also sentenced for weapons without a permit.

We agree that the reason for the conflict that led to Beqiraj's execution is suspected to be a debt of 35,000 euros. The victim allegedly had an obligation to the other party related to the sale of a "Benz-Mercedez" type vehicle, for which he refused to deliver the payment.

The previous criminal event happened in front of the Vlora Court of Appeal, while the victim was walking on the street, while the perpetrator got out of a car with black windows and shot him dead. Beqiraj was a person with a criminal record involved in several criminal events. The 31-year-old used several identities, he was known as Taulant Beqiraj and as Taulant Manaj.
