Metropolitan Korca is the main contender to come to the head of the Orthodox Autocephaly Church of Albania.

Anastas Janullatos, the Greek cleric, led the Albanian church for nearly 33 years, as his health recently deteriorated from an illness.

He was initially told of a seasonal virosis, but then he was taken from the Tirana hospital to athens for specialized treatment.

The report says that Janullatos may no longer be able to return to the duties of the Albanian Church.

But who is Father Joan Pelushi expected to succeed?

Fatmir Pelushi, now known as Metropolitan Joan or Father Ioan, was born on January 1, 1956. He studied for several years at the Orthodox Theological School of the Holy Cross near Boston in the United States.

Father John graduated from the Orthodox Faculty of Theology, the Holy Cross Orthodox School of Theology, Boston, with the degree "Master of Divinity". He studied in the US thanks to a scholarship founded there by Albanians in America in memory of Bishop Fan Noli.

He has previously served as a lecturer and dean of the Albanian Orthodox Church's Theological Academy.

After graduating from the Holy Cross, he returned to Albania, while Archbishop Anastas appointed him to teach at the Seminary, as well as to serve in other places within the Church. He hired him as deacher on 27 February 1994, then as a priest on 4 December of the same year. In 1995 I received a right to study and returned to the United States to continue further studies. When he returned in 1996, he was appointed director of the Theological Seminary in Durres, as well as elevated to the rank of Archidirection on 19 November.

On 18 July 1998, he was elected as The Metropolitan of Korca and was enthroned two days later.

He has translated a number of books into Albanian: 1-On the Holy Spirit, published in 1996.2-Orthodox Faith. Brother. The Doctrine, published in 1997.3-Orthodox Faith. Brother. II Worship, published in 1997.4-Orthodox Faith. Brother. 3 Holy Scripture and History of the Church, published in 2000.5-Orthodox Faith. Brother. IV Spirituality, published in 2002.6-Saint Siluani, published in 2003.7-Dogmatica, (Dispensation) textbook at the Academy of Theology.8-Illyrian-Albanian Saints, (Dispensation) 9-Sermons.

Also, Metropolitan of Korca Joani has published numerous articles in the newspaper "Resurrection", has referred to the publications in scientific symposiums inside and outside the country representing with dignity the Orthodox Church of Albania. With his care, the magazine "Tempulli" is published.
