A meeting between the United States and Ukraine will take place in the near future, said the top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Andriy Yermak, who heads the president's office, said he had just had a phone conversation with U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

“We discussed the next steps towards a just and lasting peace,” Yermak said in a statement.

"We also exchanged views on security issues and the approximation of positions in the framework of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States. We have planned a meeting for our teams in the near future to continue this important work," he further said.

The relationship between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy has deteriorated after a meeting accompanied by debates, clashes and tensions at the White House, where the US president and vice president criticized Zelensky for not sufficiently appreciating American support for Ukraine.

They also accused him of “gambling with World War III.” The meeting turned sour, and Zelensky left the White House without signing the rare earth minerals deal he had come to sign. President Trump said after the meeting that he could return “when he is ready for peace.”
