"Karl Gega", the first demonstration model for climate-friendly

Let's cool smarter, consuming less energy and with less impact on the climate. The message of World Ozone Day was translated into concrete action at the “Karl Gega” Vocational School, where, with the support of UNIDO and in collaboration with the National Ozone Unit, the first advanced heat pump with R290 in an Albanian school was put into operation.

The new technology combines high energy efficiency with R290 (propane), a natural refrigerant gas with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of only 3. The project demonstrates in practice that the transition to refrigerant gases with very low climate impact can go hand in hand with more efficient energy use.

For the students of the Thermohydraulics department, the project is also a practical laboratory: they closely followed the installation and can now learn firsthand about the technology that future professionals will use.

With the system now in operation, "Karl Gega" becomes the first demonstration model in an Albanian school for low-GWP technologies, an experience that can serve to expand them to schools and other public buildings.
