Officers from Britain's National Crime Agency, investigating people smuggling across the English Channel in small boats, have arrested a 30-year-old man in south-west London.
The Albanian national was stopped by NCA investigators this morning in the Tolworth Rise area of Surbiton as part of a police operation.
He is suspected of involvement in an Albanian organized crime group that coordinated the movement of immigrants from France to Great Britain by raft.
After checking the telephones of his home address, a quantity of money was also seized.
The Albanian is being interrogated by NCA officers on suspicion of facilitating illegal immigration.
The NCA alone has more than 60 ongoing investigations into networks or individuals at the highest level of organized immigration crime or human trafficking. Some of them stand at the top of the priority list.
