The former mufti of Tirana, Ylli Gurra, comments on the case of 52-year-old Gjergj Laci, with radical beliefs, who for six years kept his wife and two teenage sons locked up, whom he abused and even threatened with weapons.
Gurra told Mcn TV that religious institutions that are recognized by the state should not be dumb or deaf.
"They should not stop at hypocritical distancing, they need cooperation with religious communities and state institutions, prevention and not dry statements. It is sad that anywhere in Albania, but also in the capital, we are faced with such sad news, which creates uncertainty.
But it also sows uncertainty, even more so when such a horror occurs in the capital, in the name of radicalization.
It is right to leave the required space to the competent bodies, the state police and the investigation, to highlight what the situation was and what kind of radicalism had its impetus. 6 years of such psychological but also religious trauma, it must be seen if there was a religious background.
It's another bell, but if there will really be a radicalization and 6 years of a trial or massacre of his family in the name of any faith, this is catastrophic and an alarm bell if it has a religious background.
If religious institutions operate in the country, they have the first duty to take responsibility for what is conveyed to the public opinion, in the name of their religion.
Albanians have paid dearly, either in the image, or in tarnishing, or their inter-religious or interpersonal relations, radicalization, manipulation, or even bringing flesh to the ball in the name of religion, in these three decades, or in the reality after the 1990s ".
According to him, it is up to the investigating institutions, if the person massacred his family for 6 years in the name of a religion, this is a tragedy, whether from the church or the mosque, if he attended, was infected or manipulated, or misused.
"Incarceration, massacre of the family, in the name of religion in this way cannot be justified. This is very shocking. What religion has such a space? Nobody! Neither Christianity nor Islam".
Asked if it is possible for a Muslim believer in the name of radicalism to keep his family confined and how far his attitudes are from what the religion teaches, Gurra said it is as far as heaven and earth.
But he added that in his experience and in our clashes as Albanians of a peaceful faith, he shared his conviction that the institutions should not remain alone in distancing themselves from this case or these cases.
"It cannot remain only in distancing 'they are not like us'. In 6 years, a state collapses or recovers. Such a shocking reality in the heart of the capital, in the middle of a community of residents, if he has been a frequenter of places of worship, is not the only excuse and way out, distancing.
If someone or several die in the name of manipulation by a particular religion, distancing is stale. In 6 years, the concern should have been conveyed by the community there.
Even believers, someone should convey the concern to such institutions. It is hypocrisy to distance yourself at the moment when the thing happened, the collision, violence or mistreatment of family members.
If there is any truth in religion, he was a frequenter whether it was a church or a mosque, 6 years is a long, long time, in the face of such a massacre reality, from the religious and human side, from the entire chain of institutions there has been silence or inaction.
In terms of reaction, we are extremely late, it is enough not to pass by my lord and let him live there for 1 thousand years. If he attended a mosque or a church, the community of believers should not be so divisive.
Religious institutions in the case of religious disputes can rightly stay at a certain distance, perhaps their intervention can be delayed, the circle of believers themselves, Christian or Muslim, should be more active, more active, not dissension of this nature that simply the day it happens everyone says some knew, this is not citizenship. The Moscow conflict has always produced such cases".
Asked if other cases of this magnitude are known in the country, Gurra said that there are not a few cases that have become known to the public, where there have been murders and executions and elimination of the other person or rape and mistreatment within the family. for years and people have tried to justify it in the name of religion.
"It's all a masquerade to extend the margin or percentage of radicalization or extremism. What is nerve-wracking is to give up the muscovy.
A reality such as this today, where technological evolution precedes everything in life, cannot remain the religious part without being infected or damaged, or without slipping into radicalism or extremism, if we have to tell the truth of society, they are not excluded that part of the influence comes from outside our geographical location, through technology, social networks, virtual spaces.
The institutions of the country must precede them through the means of public communication, churches and mosques. They should also be addressed by public windows such as the media.
Cooperation and collaboration, not just to sell, 'these are not ours'. We need close cooperation with the country's institutions.
That in the end it is the citizens of this country who fall victims in different realities, but there are also others who take part of their faith and religious formation through such lines that the final path that leads them is the collision with society, and more beyond and with state institutions, or the collision and sliding into a non-state reality".
