"He was very smart, a perfect killer", former prosecutor debunks the "lone wolf" that shocked Albania

He was known as the "lone wolf". He acted alone. He was very dangerous. Julian Sinanaj is one of the most famous Albanian murderers. He is one of the coldest and most intelligent killers Albania has ever known. A man who did not ask for forgiveness, but for a novel. In the prosecutor's office, after hours of interrogation, Julian Sinanaj made a request that aroused curiosity. A book. The prosecutor, accustomed to defendants asking for defense assistance, a cigarette, prison facilities, or good conditions in the cell, asked him about the genre:

"Do you want a book about the mafia? Or a famous crime?"

Sinanaj's response was cold and blunt...

"No. I've lived them, I've done them myself. In that genre, I'm the author of the book myself. I want a novel."

A sentence that would remain long in the memory of investigators and would describe more accurately than any expertise the portrait of this dark character: a perfect killer. He spoke of the execution as if it were a technical process, not an emotional one.

"In 2014, the police and the prosecution for serious crimes managed to find a person, who I have said on other occasions was the most productive repentant that law enforcement agencies in the Republic of Albania have had," said Eugen Beci, former prosecutor.

"There have been some practices where the justice collaborator or more precisely the prosecution body has withdrawn from cooperating with the justice collaborator during the trial ," said Artan Simoni, Nuredin Dumani's lawyer.

Julian Sinanaj is not a common name in criminal records. He is the rare model of a professional executioner. He did not belong to an ordinary gang, but was an organization itself. Independent, sophisticated, trained, precise to the millimeter. He was not a passionate assassin. He was a calculating machine, built to kill silently.

When he was arrested in 2014, he emerged as the sole man who had organized a network of contract killings, using temporary associates and perfect camouflage schemes. He had killed in Tirana and Vlora. There were suspicions that he had also committed crimes in Athens on behalf of Russian criminal groups.

At that time, the former Prosecutor's Office for Serious Crimes requested and sent information about this character to the United States Embassy. It was suspected that he could also be a recruited Russian agent. Investigators discovered that Sinanaj had been trained by a foreign expert to become a hired killer. When he received the order, he did not only see the victim's face, every detail and movement. He even tried to get to know the victim's psychology. He left nothing to chance....

Pse u tërhoq nga bashkëpunimi me drejtësinë vrasësi i rrezikshëm 

Në deklaratat e para, Julian Sinanaj shfaqi një tipar që e dallonte nga çdo i penduar tjetër: nuk akuzoi të tretë për të fituar favore. Foli për veten. Për krimet që kishte kryer. Me qetësi klinike, tregoi se si kishte organizuar vrasjen e biznesmenit në Tiranë. Si kishte koordinuar bashkëpunëtorët. Ai nuk ishte një i penduar klasik. Ishte një njeri që, siç tha vetë, “ishte lodhur”. Jo nga ndërgjegjja, por nga lodhja logjistike: duke fshehur gjurmët, duke ruajtur veten, duke mos i besuar askujt. Ishte lodhur nga perfeksioni.

Fillimisht, ai zgjodhi të fliste, duke treguar gjithçka: emra, skema, vendndodhje, mekanizma vrasjeje, detaje që vetëm autori i krimit mund t’i dinte. Zinxhiri i emrave nga biznesi dhe bota e krimit që përmendi, kishte ndikim nga Vlora deri në Tiranë. Rrëfimet e tij nxorën në pah balancën e rreme të paqes që këta personazhe ruanin.

“Mendoj që në rast se do trajtohej dhe menaxhohej shumë më mirë ky i penduar i drejtësisë, ne do kishin shumë rate të tjera të zbuluara, të cilat sot e kësaj dite janë të pa zbuluara”, u shpreh ish-prokurori, Eugen Beci.

“Përgjithësisht dëshmitarët me të cilët ne kemi patur një marrëveshje, kanë dhënë rezultate, kanë qenë korrekt, ashtu siç kemi patur edhe dëshmitarë të tjerë me të cilët është lidhur marrëveshja, dhe për shkak të shkeljes marrëveshjes është larguar nga programi i dëshmitarëve pasi nuk kanë qenë korrekt në zbatimin e ligjit, ashtu siç kërkohet në fakt në marrëveshje me bashkëpunëtorin e drejtësisë”, u shpreh Vladimir Mara, prokuror i SPAK

Me Sinanajn ndodhi ajo që nuk pritej. Ai kuptoi se jo gjithçka që thoshte po shkonte aty ku duhej. Jo çdo informacion po ndiqej. Disa pista po mbeteshin pezull, disa emra nuk po prekeshin fare. Marrëveshja me prokurorinë u thye. Ai u tërhoq. Julian Sinanaj nuk u tërhoq nga frika. U tërhoq nga diçka shumë më e thellë dhe më e rrezikshme: nga humbja e besimit.

“Këtë nuk e ka bërë me çdo lloj institucioni pasi sipas edhe deklarimeve, shumë institucione persona të cilët duhet të ishin në zbatim të ligjit, janë përfshirë në dhënie informacionesh në krime shumë të rënda dhe nuk ka pasur besimin e duhur me këto institucione”.

Ai kuptoi se institucionet mund të bëjnë pazare. Se të vërtetat më të rënda nuk fshihen nga frika e kriminelëve, por nga heshtja e atyre që mbajnë ligjin. Ai kuptoi se ndoshta e kishte tejkaluar vijën e padukshme të toleruar. Dhe në atë moment, u tërhoq. Nuk tha më asgjë, pasi nuk kishte më besim. Jo te një prokuror. As te një polic. Por te vetë drejtësia.

"There have been cases when those who have cooperated with justice have become remorseful and during the investigation have ascertained, so to speak, a bias on the part of the prosecution or a lack of will to investigate or bring to the end the facts that he shows. Here, by creating suspicion, the repentant person can withdraw ," said former prosecutor Eugen Beci.

After breaking the agreements, with the argument that he helped to uncover the events, Julian Sinanaj did not receive life imprisonment, but only 30 years. He was convicted of the murders of Sokol Veizaj and Agron Çela, the failed TNT assassinations of the Commissioner for the Right to Information Besnik Dervishaj, and the former Democratic MP Ardian Kollozi. He also spoke about planning the murders of gas businessman Piro Bare and two builders in Vlora. Fortunately, those events did not come true.
