His Eminence Giovani Peragine, as of today, has officially assumed the office of Archbishop of the Diocese of Shkodër-Pult.
The handover ceremony was held near the Shkodra Cathedral, where he was handed the task by Monsignor Angelo Massafra.
In his first speech, the Archbishop of the Diocese of Shkodra Pult, Monsignor Peragine, stated that he comes to Shkodra on this important mission, describing it as the holy land of Catholicism in Albania.
Bishop Peragine stated that "upon arriving at this Archbishopric of the Diocese of Shkodër-Pult, I am aware that I am stepping on holy ground, a ground washed with the blood of many martyrs, who, to prove their loyalty to Christ and to show their closeness to people, did not hesitate to give their lives like Christ."
Monsignor Peragine was appointed Bishop Emeritus in May of last year following the resignation of Monsignor Angelo Massafra, who served in Shkodra for 28 years.
The first official Mass of the new head of the Catholic Church in Shkodra will be held on January 11.
