Ilir Panda withdraws from Erion Veliaj's case, here's who was appointed rapporteur in his place!

Ilir Panda has resigned as rapporteur of the Erion Veliaj case at the Supreme Court.

Sandër Simoni has been appointed in his place, and the names of the other two members of the judging panel are expected to be added.

The High Court will review Veliaj's request for a prison sentence, requesting his immediate release and a substantive examination of his claims.

Erion Veliaj has been in detention since February 10, 2025.

The first citizen of Tirana is accused of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times) and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".

The investigations, according to SPAK, are related to several suspected episodes of corruption and irregular benefits, which allegedly involved companies that received construction permits or public funds from the Municipality of Tirana.
