The former Minister of Health, who was arrested yesterday along with two associates after being accused of abusing EU funds while he was the director of the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination (SASPAC), will appear today before the Court of Special for verifying the conditions of the security measure.

The session is expected to be held at 09:30.

While 4 others are under investigation under security measures with mandatory appearance and 2 under house arrest.

The security measure was requested by SPAK prosecutor Elida Kaçkini, who investigated the SASPAK file, and was taken by judge Rudina Palloi.

Beqaj is also accused of corruption, failure to declare income by hiding the ownership of the restaurant "Gzones" near the Castle of Tirana and of a vehicle.

Former minister Ilir Beqaj was led to prison by a criminal proceeding started on September 6 of last year, registered under the charge of Ermal Kurtulaj, the coordinator of EUSAIR, an important project supported by European Union funds and managed by the State Agency for Strategic Programming. and Aid Coordination (SASPAC), where Beqaj was director.

 SPAK says that it has found evidence that Ilir Beqaj as a manager, in cooperation with Kurtulaj, whom he himself had appointed, ordered fictitious prosecution procedures, worth hundreds of thousands of euros, to various companies for incomplete services and that the ultimate beneficiary was himself the minister through the Gzona Restaurant in Tirana, which SPAK says is owned by him.

These tenders were developed through a competitive negotiation procedure or simple procurement, which were ordered to be carried out by the person under investigation Ilir Beqaj in the capacity of General Director, who has signed since agreeing to perform the specified service, to the invitations sent to the entities to submit offers according to the type of procurement, to the order for the establishment of the commission to carry out the evaluation of the offers, to the letter sent to the winner after the evaluation until the conclusion of the contract, these drafted documents , completed and signed some time later, from the conclusion and implementation of the contract, it is stated in the announcement of SPAK.
