Abuse of EU funds at SASPAC extends detention terms for Ilir Beqajn by 3 months

The Special Court has rejected the request of former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj for the relaxation of the security measure, from "arrest in prison" to "house arrest", while accepting the request of the Special Prosecution office to postpone the investigative deadlines by 3 months.

"The Applicant special prosecution against corruption and organized crime on 16.12.2024 has submitted to the Court the request with object: "Extension of the terms of detention for a period of three months in relation to the security measure "Arrest in prison" provided by Article 238 of the Criminal Code for persons under investigation Ilir Beqaj and Ermal Kurtulaj, determined by decision No. 65 dated 03.07.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Crime of the Republic of Albania. Organized."

At the conclusion of the trial, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime with a judicial panel composed of Judge Rudina Pelloj, based on Articles 112, 238, 263 and 264 of the Criminal Court, with decision No. 731, dated 30.12.2024, decided: 1. Acceptance of the request of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime with No. 731 basic register, dated registration 16.12.2024, with the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime, with the object "Extension of the detention terms for a period of three months in relation to the security measure "Arrest in prison" provided by Article 238 of the Criminal Code for persons under investigation Ilir Beqaj and Ermal Kurtulaj, determined by decision No. 65 dated 03.07.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime"

The extension of the detention period, i.e. the duration of the personal security measure "Arrest in prison", set by decision No. 65 dated 03.07.2024, continued with decision No. 73 dated 06.07.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, in the framework of criminal proceeding No. 190 of 2023, for person under investigation Ilir Hamid Beqaj, for a period of 3 (three) months, starting this term from 04.01.2025. 3. The extension of the detention period, respectively, of the duration of the personal security measure "Arrest in prison", determined by decision No. 65 dated 03.07.2024, continued with decision No. 73 dated 06.07.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, in the framework of criminal proceeding No. 190 of 2023, for person under investigation Ermal Xhemal Kurtulaj, for a period of 3 (three) months, starting this term from 04.01.2025", the notice states.
