After an unusual December, with almost no precipitation and a lack of snow even in the remote mountainous areas, January is expected to be completely different.
Weather forecaster Lajda Porja told Tv Klan that the coming days will initially be accompanied by very low temperatures and clear weather, as a result of a cold air mass coming from the North Pole.
However, this frosty episode will not last long, as a sudden change in weather conditions is expected at the beginning of January, with a return of precipitation, snow in mountainous areas, and then heavy rain and strong winds in most of the country.
"There is no snowfall and the deep areas had very little in a previous episode, given that December was a very dry month, without precipitation. We have had two episodes with negligible or very little precipitation. It is predicted that today and tomorrow the weather will be clear without precipitation and very cold. It is a mass that comes from the North Pole and is trying to penetrate and stay in the Balkans, it has already entered. It will not stay for long, but it will return very quickly. In short, today and tomorrow we will have very low temperatures throughout the territory. There is also an increase in humidity. Tirana is approaching 0 degrees today, tonight at night the temperatures will go to -8 and -9 in the mountainous areas, in Korça the temperatures will go to -6.
Then we have a total change on January 2, a system is introduced that brings little precipitation, mainly snow and even heavier precipitation on the 4th and 5th. On the 2nd, snow returns to the entire mountainous area, snow will approach the Shkodra region, Kruja and Elbasan. Snow falls to the lowlands, but since the precipitation is in low quantities. Then on the 4th and 5th there will be high-intensity rainfall, it will be mainly rainfall as temperatures increase. On Sunday and Monday there will be very strong winds, the Western Lowlands will also have torrential rain.
As for January, Porja said that it will be a month of unstable weather, with extreme cold temperatures, rain and snow, strong winds, and very few sunny days.
"The weather is expected to be very unstable until January 15, with rain, wind and snow expected. January will be a cold month, a typical winter month different from December. Precipitation is expected to be much more present. It will be rich and quite abundant with both rain and snowfall. During this time, there will be some days when there will be interruptions in precipitation, a little sunshine. Almost the first 15 days of January will be unstable. On the 7th, a cold mass will penetrate again, which will stay a little longer and will bring low temperatures again. January will be the coldest month of winter."
