During 2025, Albania faced a series of serious criminal events, where murders and assassinations shocked public opinion in several cities in the country.

From Shkodra, Tirana, Lezha and Durrës, to Elbasan and Vlora, crimes were often committed for motives of revenge, blood feuds, property conflicts or banal quarrels.

In some cases, the perpetrators were arrested, while some of the incidents still remain unsolved, raising concerns about public safety and the level of crime in the country.

CRIME FILES

-On January 6, 2025, the murder of Ramzan Mataj was recorded in Dragoç, Shkodra, found dead inside his car. Brothers Arjon and Klisman Hasaj were arrested for the crime.

Motive: A conflict arising from a relationship the victim had for six years with the sister of the two perpetrators.

-On January 12, 2025, Bujar Nasufi was killed in Tirana. Nasufi was executed in front of his wife. The latter was inside the vehicle when the perpetrator approached and shot her, leaving her dead on the spot.

-On January 13, Kristian Marku was killed in Vlora. His criminal file contained a series of charges related mainly to his involvement in the bloody conflict between the Reçi, Gjini and Bardhi tribes in the city of Rrëshen. Erald Cenaj, 36, a resident of Kukës, was arrested in connection with the incident, and is suspected of providing the vehicle used in the crime.

-On January 24, Lulzim Visha was murdered in Tirana. Eduart Lami, 37, ended up in jail for the crime.

–February 27, 2025 brought another serious murder in Shkodra, where Pavlin Preka was killed, a crime for which Vasel Koçeku, 43, and Klaudio Lisaj, 20, were arrested.

-On April 17, 2025, the murder of Gjovalin Prendit was recorded in Lezha, this case also without any perpetrators arrested, while the motive is suspected to be revenge.

-In addition, another crime was recorded on June 1, 2025, where Pjetër Kaza was killed, in Lezha. This crime is also suspected to have occurred due to a blood feud dating back to 1994 between the Gjini and Kaza tribes.

-On June 4, 2025, in the city of Durrës, Ermir Dedja (29 years old) was killed, an event which led to the arrest of two people, Erion Ndoni and Klodian Berisha, while another wanted person, Xhuljano Dyrmishi, is suspected of involvement in this murder and its criminal organization.

-Another serious incident occurred on August 4, 2025 in Vau e Dejës, when Frrok Lleshaj was killed, this case also remains unsolved by the police. Although there are no arrests, the main clue to the murder for the police remains that of blood feud. Frrok Lleshaj is the third to be killed after his son and brother in the early 1990s, while his cousin Dodë Lleshaj, with whom the conflict arose, and another citizen from Puka were also killed. It all started in 1991 when the 65-year-old's son was killed in Greece.

-On August 14, a 14-year-old was killed. The minor, Erald Xhejo, was stabbed to death by a peer, after a fight over trivial reasons.

-Piro Prroni (61 years old), was killed on August 28, 2025 in Abat i Postribë, while the perpetrator Ndoc Maçaj surrendered to the police.

–Kristian Kola (34 years old), was killed on September 4, 2025 after a gun attack in Shkodra.

-Armando Pali and Liridon Kraja (alias Lusha), were killed on September 8, 2025 in a bar near Shkodra in a gun attack, in which others were also injured. The perpetrator, Ragip Gila, was arrested.

– On September 18, Mirel Çokaj was found dead in an abyss, while his family members claim that he was killed for cannabis plots. The Shkodra Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation.

-Meanwhile, the most criminal event of this year was undoubtedly the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja on October 6, 2025 in the courtroom. Kalaja was shot to death inside the courtroom of the Court of Appeal in Tirana by a defendant during a hearing on a property dispute.

Two other people were injured, while Elvis Shkambi was arrested for the crime, while his uncle, Gjon Shkambi, was arrested for supporting the perpetrator. The act shocked the justice system and drew reactions from the highest state institutions.

-A double murder was recorded on October 22, where after a banal quarrel, Flori Paluçi and Aranit Kurti were killed. The incident took place outside a bar in Manzë, while the quarrel started over a coffee.

-Another serious incident occurred on October 28, when 42-year-old Keli Hoxha was killed by Kristo Mema. The fight began over the horse of the suspected perpetrator. The latter was arrested after he tried to escape.

-On this same day, October 28, Filip Shehu, 41, killed chef Indrit Ismaillari, 34, who died in hospital after fatal stabbings.

-Meanwhile, another serious incident occurred that day, when 25-year-old Marjan Kodheli stabbed his father, Pjetër Kodheli, to death in their apartment. Although he attempted to escape, he was arrested by the police.

–On November 11, 2025, an assassination attempt was recorded near Rinas, where Gilmando Dani and AMP agent Muçi Shaliani (Sheqeri) were killed.

-On November 26, 15-year-old Erion Boba was injured in a fight over weak motives in Durrës. He died in hospital after 9 days, while a peer was arrested for the crime that originated on TikTok.

-On November 30, Mondi Mëhalla was murdered in his business premises, inside his car, in Elbasan, a crime for which several people were arrested.
