On Tuesday, June 27, the constitution of the new municipal council of the Municipality of Himara was determined after the local elections of May 14. On the same day, Fredi Beleri must also be sworn in as the mayor of this municipality.
However, Beleri has been in the cell since May 12, under the charge of election corruption. The Greek media paid attention to this issue, also publishing a government position where it was said that it was being followed with interest and that Beleri should participate in the first meeting of the municipal council.
For this, Fredi Beler needs a permit from the prisons, with the approval of SPAK, to be present. However, the Special Prosecutor's Office has not yet received a request for permission from the lawyers or Fredi Beleri himself. The law on special permits provides that it is taken in cases of weddings, deaths and exams. In this case, it is not defined in the law what should happen and it is not known what position the General Directorate of Prisons will take together with SPAK.
Fredi Beleri has asked several times to be released from the cell, but his requests have been rejected by the courts. Recently, the Appeal of the Special Court overturned Beler and the claims of illegal arrest and invalidity of the wiretapping.
Beleri is accused of having given money in exchange for votes during the May 14 local elections. He was detained together with Pandeli Kokaveshi, who was released from the cell due to health problems.
