"The only thing they care about is saving their lives",  declared the mother of 21-year-old Ema, who was hit to death by a 27-year-old Albanian in Thessaloniki in November 2022.

After the start of the discussion about the compensation lawsuit filed by the family against the 27-year-old man, who was sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison, after hitting the young woman and abandoning her on the street.

Emas' mother, Kelly, spoke to the Greek media before the start of the session in question, where she said that "I don't believe that the guilty have repented. The only thing they were interested in then and now, since the lawsuit we filed is also pending, is saving their lives."

According to her, the 27-year-old may have apologized during the hearing, but he is not really sorry.

"He apologized to her, but said it wasn't his fault, and that she jumped in front of his vehicle and wasn't running. Emmanuela was crossing the street with her cell phone in her hand. So such an apology is not an apology,” she noted.

The young Albanian has never expressed regret for the incident. In front of the black squads, he declared that Ema got ahead of him in the car. Even though he braked, he said that "he could not avoid the serious incident".

" She suddenly came out on the street and I didn't have time to see her. I was going 55 km/h. I saw him for two seconds, I hit the brakes, I turned the wheel to avoid him," he said.

"I am sorry for what happened", he said apologizing and described that he had come to Greece from Albania 13 years ago, he had no legal residence documents, nor a driver's license, writes Protothema.
