At the peak of the tourist season, when Rinas International Airport is facing the highest influx of entries and exits in the country, the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, and the Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, conducted a joint inspection to closely monitor the implementation of the measures taken by the Border Police and Customs structures to cope with this influx.
Police and administration employees are handling around 50,000 to 56,000 passengers per day, while ensuring the rapid movement of citizens and tourists, as well as high security standards.
During the tourist season, all Border Police services have switched to a 12-hour service regime, increasing the presence of employees at Rinas International Airport by about 20%.
The minimum age for users of the e-Gate automated control system has also been reduced from 16 to 12 years, significantly increasing the number of passengers processed automatically and reducing waiting times. In parallel, the TIMS system has been improved and updated, while computers, document readers and other border control equipment have been repaired or replaced with new equipment, further increasing the speed and quality of service.
In addition to flow management, attention has been paid to preventing and combating cross-border crimes, with a focus on the fight against drug trafficking, smuggling and illegal migration.
Hita assured that the Border Police is maximally committed to guaranteeing fast and safe processing of passengers, while in parallel, controls based on risk analysis continue to crack down on any criminal activity.
Beja emphasized that both institutions are on duty 24 hours a day to respond to the increased influx of the tourist season.
He stated that the customs administration is committed to guaranteeing the fastest possible movement of citizens, without compromising the necessary controls for every good that enters the territory of the Republic of Albania, both in the passenger and cargo sectors.
