A serious incident of violence has been reported in the village of Vjosë in Fier, where an immigrant returning from Germany claims to have been brutally beaten by several people, including a Fier Police officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, around 11:00 PM, near the victim's apartment.
Altin Meçaj, 46, in a statement to the media, accused his fellow villager, Fredi Lamaj, a police officer, of being the person who hit him, emphasizing that the violence came after a comment he had made on the social network Facebook to the latter's sister.
According to Meçaj, while he was in a bar in the village, he received a threatening message from Lamaj with the text: "I don't know who you're messing with ." After returning home, he says that the lights were turned off only in his apartment and then he was called by name from outside.
"When I went out to the gate of the house, they immediately hit me. There were at least three people. They knocked me to the ground and I lost consciousness. I only recognized the person I accuse from his voice, " Meçaj stated.
In an attempt to save him, his father, 76-year-old Ylli Meçaj, who was also severely beaten, intervened. Both were transported to the emergency room of the Fier regional hospital, where they are receiving medical attention. The father suffered a fractured skull and other injuries from the blows.
Altin Meçaj emphasizes that the conflict is meaningless and that the Facebook comment was simply a compliment. "If it was a misunderstanding, it could have been explained with words. There was no reason for my father and I to end up in the hospital," he said, demanding justice and guarantees that the incident will not be repeated.
His father, Ylli Meçaj, also recounted the moments of violence, saying he found his son unconscious on the ground and being kicked. " I jumped on the boy to protect him and they kicked me too. I was covered in blood. If I hadn't come out, my son might not be alive today," he said with tears in his eyes, demanding justice and safety for the family.
Up to now, the State Police has not given an official reaction to the incident. According to sources, the case has been transferred to the Police Supervision Agency (AMP) for investigation, because one of the reported persons is a police officer. The investigations are expected to shed light on the circumstances and those responsible for this serious incident that has shocked the local community.
