'They arrested her without warning'/ A mother in Shkodër ends up

A woman identified as Diana Bahçja was arrested by Shkodra police only 8 days after giving birth to her son. The reason is a fine that the court of first instance in Tirana imposed in 2020 in the amount of 2 million and 500 thousand old lek. This was converted a week ago to a sentence of 1 month and 20 days in prison.

Her husband Naim Bahçja from the village of Drisht i Postribe in Shkodër says that he has been taking care of his newborn child for a week. Naim Bahçja says that his wife was arrested a week ago when her son was only 8 days old, a newborn without having any knowledge of the fine imposed three years ago, nor of the prison sentence decision.

Diana Bahçja was convicted for abandoning a child from her first marriage, but she denies that she abandoned her daughter. In a telephone conversation from the women's prison in Tirana, the convict says that her ex-husband, after mistreating her, kicked her out of the house, not even leaving her daughter.

Currently, father Naimi and his 11-year-old granddaughter are taking care of the boy, who has just turned two weeks old from the moment of birth, showing that they have a very difficult time both in terms of feeding and taking care of the baby.

The appeal of the 28-year-old is for his wife to be released as soon as possible and to return to the newborn child, while showing that he is ready to take the daughter that his wife has from his first marriage.

"My wife has been married once more. After the celebration, the ex-husband she had accused her of, and without knowing it, a fine of 2 and a half million lek came for abandoning the child. They arrested the woman without her knowledge, there is no knew nothing about the fine and was taken without a declaration. He did not abandon the child, the husband took him out. The woman was at home when he was arrested. The child was 8 days old. He was arrested without any papers.

My appeal is to release the woman and come to the child. The wife is in the women's prison in Tirana. I don't know how to take care of the baby like she does. Her husband did not leave her the first child. We are feeding the child with purchased milk because the mother's breast has been removed. I had a hard time. For 2 days the child only cried until he got used to it.

The operator of the area took me on the phone and told me that he will take you as long as you put a signature. Okay, I told him. When we went to the police station in Shkodra, they took out a letter and told him to sign it. She took the letter and they took me like a bird that escaped from my hand and I never saw it again. Yes, I am ready to keep the child from her first marriage as well", said Naim Bahçja.

Convicted Diana Bahçja is from Burreli, while her ex-husband who denounced her for abandoning her first child a few years after the divorce is from Burreli, a denunciation he made after Diana got married for the second time in Shkodër. It is unclear what the history is between this former couple and why the mother did not take the daughter from the first marriage or what the court decided on this case.
