'My branch, a useless investment'/ Pedagogy from Tirana, Call Center

She is around 35 and is an external lecturer in one of the faculties of the University of Tirana. Klara, mother of a little girl, supplements her income as a lecturer by filling in the seminar hours in the Master of Science course, but during the week she works in the Call Center. In a confidential conversation with him, Klara reveals that she has worked in the Call Center since she was a student at the faculty.

"After I got married, I tried to get a job at the faculty where I had graduated, but there were no new jobs. They offered me opportunities as an external lecturer for seminar classes in Master's studies", says Klara.

But the salary of an external lecturer is negligible, in a year nearly 80 thousand lek, while the needs to have a fixed monthly salary for the young mother were great.

"I didn't think about it for long. Especially during the pandemic, when we were given the opportunity to work online from home, I decided not to disconnect from this job anymore. I also worked in the position of "Team Leader", but now I am a simple employee because I have the possibility of working remotely", says Klara, who today is paid 80,000 ALL per month for working 8 hours in the Call Center.

The new pedagogy says that it has arrived in Tirana. Life as a boarding student has taught her to make it on her own by working any job, especially now that she has a family and has a little daughter to raise.

"We were a few girls in the room who also worked and studied. In the Call Center, I have seen many young people who have completed their studies and have not found a job in their profession.

I only regret that I invested in a branch which has no demand in the labor market. We see this in the requirements for studies, very few students choose to continue social subjects, philosophy, sociology. It seems that these branches are a useless investment", says the pedagogy of the Scientific Master at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Tirana.

Klara says that getting a job as an internal lecturer at the faculty is very difficult, as there are no new jobs.

“Nuk ka vende të lira. Unë po krijoj përvojë pune, sepse që të punësohesh si Lektore e brendshme minimum duhet të kesh 3 vite eksperiencë, pasi të kesh mbaruar doktoraturën. Por ka shumë degë te Shkencat Sociale që nuk kanë nevojë për shtesa pedagogësh. Sepse vendet e reja krijohen në bazë të orëve mësimore e numrit të studentëve.”

Për rekrutimin e pedagogëve të rinj, sipas ligjit “Për Arsimin e Lartë”, procesi kryhet në department.

Sipas ligjit, është departamenti organi përgjegjës që miraton kriteret dhe bën propozimet të cilat më pas dërgohen në Rektorat. Pas miratimit të listës së pedagogëve, shpallja e fituesve kryhet në Agjencinë e Administratës Publike.

The commission consists of 5 members; 2 members appointed by the head of the Department, 2 members selected by the dean of the faculty and 1 committee member appointed by the Rector.
